The remarks of the Minister for Justice who warns the Committee on the Appointment of Judges not to select a magistrate because he does not want her, is an attack on the independence of the judiciary.

He says that he does not want “controversial” judges when the so-called controversy is nothing but an attack by the Labour Party on a magistrate whose duty led her to an uncomfortable truth: that corruption has consequences even for those who commit it.

We defend the independence of the judiciary from government interference. We defend what remains of our democracy from the abuse of the corrupt and those who cover for them.
