The allegations put forward by Dr Jason Azzopardi in his request for a magisterial inquiry are very serious. According to these charges, which are of a criminal nature, people who could have been disqualified and prevented from driving because of abusive and unlawful driving, were unlawfully acquitted after illegal payment.

This racket is to the detriment of the Maltese State, that is to say, to the loss of every citizen of goodwill, and involves foreign tourists. If these abuses really took place, they put our country in a very bad light at an international level, with the possibility of compromising a large source of income: tourism, which gives a livelihood to so many families.

Therefore Repubblika insists that until the start of the magisterial investigation, the police and the authorities should swiftly take all necessary steps to ensure that there is no tampering with or destruction of evidence.
