Prime Minister Robert Abela has the obligation to give a full account to the Maltese people of how and why abuse and corruption by a person very close to one of his ministers was allowed to continue for years.

After the story published today by the Sunday Times of Malta which revealed a serious scandal where a minister’s driver has been receiving a severe disability benefit for six years where he is supposed to be unable to drive, Repubblika is putting these questions to the Prime Minister :

Who is the minister who hired this person as his driver?

Who authorized this person to be employed as a minister’s driver?

Was the scrutiny procedure followed for the people who will serve in the ministerial secretariats?

Are there other people in the ministers’ secretariats who are involved in this net of corruption?

If Prime Minister Robert Abela will remain silent, he will become an accomplice in this corruption where money is being stolen that is supposed to be addressed to people with severe disabilities.

We encourage Maltese and Gozitans of good will to join us tomorrow, Monday 16 October at 7:00pm for the demonstration in Triq Repubblika, Valletta (departure from near Wembley Stores), and for the Vigil at 7:30pm in Pjazza l-Assediu l-Kbir, to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
