Repubblika conducting door-to-door recruitment for the next European Citizens’ Panel on Preparedness
The European Commission has launched a unique door-to-door recruitment campaign across the EU to invite citizens to participate in the next European Citizens’ Panel (ECP).
This panel will focus on how the EU can better prepare, inform and warn people about future crises.
Repubblika is leading the initiative in Malta, which is part of the EU’s growing commitment to participatory democracy, ensuring that people from all walks of life help shape EU policies.
Recruiters coming to communities across Europe
Over the course of a few weeks in November, recruiters will visit lottery-selected locations in all 27 EU Member States to personally invite residents to take part. This method ensures that every citizen has an equal chance to be approached – regardless of where they live, their background, or their prior engagement in public affairs.
The recruitment effort in Malta is being run by Repubblika.
Everyone has a voice: selection by lottery
All residents who are approached and express interest can register to be part of the selection pool. From this pool, a final group will be chosen by lottery, that is, an algorithm, using a method that ensures the composition of a group representative of EU diversity in terms of age, gender, education, geographic location, and socioeconomic background.
The selected citizens will come together as a mini-Europe – 150 people working side by side to deliberate and advise on how the EU can better prepare for and respond to future challenges and crises, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Shaping a more prepared Europe
This Citizens’ Panel will contribute to improving preparedness and resilience in the face of possible crises – from geopolitical tensions and conflicts, cybersecurity and information manipulation risks, to climate change and increasing risks of natural hazards. Ensuring that citizens are informed, empowered, and protected is at the heart of this effort. By bringing together voices from across the Union, the EU aims to design strategies that work for everyone.
