We consider that the position being taken by the Speaker where he is doing nothing when Government ministers do not reply to parliamentary questions is a threat to democracy.

In a parliamentary democracy, the Government has to account for its actions to Parliament. Therefore, Speaker Anġlu Farrugia’s position of ignoring the Government’s insult where it does not account for its actions, does not make sense.

We expect the Prime Minister to ensure that his ministers give all the information requested by the people’s representatives in Parliament. We also expect the Speaker to stop the arrogance of ministers who think they should not be accountable for their actions.
