Repubblika condemns the attacks on Robert Aquilina by the President of the Labour Party Alex Sciberras.
The attacks by the president of the party in Government reflect the dangerous situation we find ourselves in. A true and strong democracy protects whistleblowers and those who put their necks out to defend the common good.
In Malta the situation is the opposite. Now not only are whistleblowers not given protection but instead, those who expose wrongdoing end up being attacked. All this in the context where the Government wants to pass a law that removes the right of the citizen to request a magisterial inquiry where there is suspicion of corruption and criminality.
Repubblika reiterates its full support and solidarity with Robert Aquilina, with whistleblowers, with journalists and with everyone who fights filth.
We reiterate our appeal to citizens of good will to join us in the protest for justice on Sunday 16 February 2025 at 4pm in front of Parliament.
