Repubblika joins the increasing calls from civil society worldwide for an urgent end to hostilities and a return to diplomacy in the Middle East.

The resort to unilateral military action by the United States and Israel, outside the framework of international law, undermines global stability and endangers civilian populations. Military escalation, wherever it happens, raises the risk of wider conflict and increases the suffering of innocent people. The protection of civilian lives and respect for international humanitarian law must always remain a priority.

Simultaneously, respect for international law demands consistency. Repubblika joins the widespread international condemnation of the violent and abusive conduct of the Iranian regime towards its own people and its ongoing disregard for fundamental human rights. The Iranian people have endured decades of repression, denial of political freedoms, and systematic violations of their dignity and safety. Their legitimate aspirations for peace, freedom, and accountable government merit the support of the international community.

The pursuit of justice and human rights cannot be achieved through unlawful war. Lasting peace in the region can only be established through respect for international law, safeguarding civilian populations, and ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Repubblika urges the Maltese Government to reaffirm Malta’s long-standing commitment to international law, neutrality, and peaceful dispute resolution. Malta should utilise every diplomatic avenue to support de-escalation, foster dialogue, and collaborate with international partners to restore stability and peace.

Malta must also ensure that it does not contribute to or facilitate any acts of unlawful aggression or breaches of international law in any way.

During moments of increased tension, the international community must reaffirm its commitment to the principles that ensure peace: the rule of law, the protection of human rights, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
