Our activities this year in connection with the 16th of October

As you have certainly noted, Repubblika is today announcing all the activities it will be organising around the 16th of October 2024. The memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia is not just a sad one, but also one of hope in justice in Malta; the memory of the life and work of a journalist. It is for this reason that Repubblika has the duty and the determination to respect the Court’s orders, that is, the prohibition of writings, declarations, or public discussions on broadcasting media or on social media, regarding the crime and regarding the person accused in connection with the crime.

As you know, every year Repubblika pays tribute to the memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia and her work as a journalist and this year, it will continue to do this while fully respecting what the Court has ordered. Consequently, all the activities that it shall be organising will not be broadcast on social media, as is usually the case, but we are requesting all those who are interested to come and participate personally in our activities. It is important that each and every one of us who believes in this just cause comes to listen to the speakers we have invited from France and Italy, and participates in the activities we are organising in Bidnija and Valletta. As I stated previously, these will not be broadcast, so your presence at these activities is more important than ever before. We are having a conference in English by the well-known French TV anchorwoman, Françoise Laborde, a round-table discussion among various Maltese intellectuals and journalists, a memory service in Bidnija on the 16th at 3pm organised by Occupy Justice, a mass in the evening, a remembrance march and a vigil in front of the law courts, where a victim of the ‘Ndrangheta will also be speaking. We will also be showing a documentary in a private location for anyone who wishes to see it. Please refer to our full programme of events on our Facebook page and webpage.

As you are well aware, all these activities cost a lot of money; for this reason we ask you to be generous and donate so that we can cover the expenses which are indeed very high, by donating on the crowdfunding site fundrazr.com/Daphne-7Years. We thank you for your generosity, and even more for your presence with us in the coming days.
