Repubblika condemns Minister Michael Falzon’s decision to ignore legitimate press questions about serious allegations of corrupt and criminal behaviour in his office. A Government Minister is obliged to reply to allegations of criminality by his staff, even to deny them. The way he turned his back on journalists shows the contempt ministers have towards the general public who has the right to expect government ministers not to protect criminals.
It was immediately clear that the severe disability pensions scandal granted to people who had no disease or disability had to involve political involvement and blessing at the highest level to be carried out for as long as it lasted.
People who are complicit in this scandal must face the consequences. And ministers who have left all this going unnoticed should shoulder responsibility.
Michael Falzon should stop escaping the consequences of his actions or negligence.
