Repubblika condemns the decision of the Commissioner for Standards not to investigate an allegation of abuse by Minister Aaron Farrugia.

We think that the reason given by the Commissioner, who was appointed by the Government alone a short time ago, is just a meaningless excuse and that it insults the intelligence of the citizen who deserves to be respected. For us it is irresponsible and senseless that the Commissioner said that it is very difficult or impossible to investigate.

Today the Commissioner for Standards sent a very ugly message to the ministers and their people and to the members of parliament.

We understand that if the Commissioner continues to act like this, it would be best for his office to be dismantled. In addition to saving the money we pay in our taxes, there will be one less instrument in the Government’s toolbox to strengthen impunity.
