Repubblika joins in condemning the acts of intimidation and threats against Side Street journalists in the office where they work. The right of citizens to be informed requires that journalists be allowed to do their work without threats and fear of violence.
We call on the police to take immediate and firm action in this case and ensure that journalists are protected from such acts.
We recall that the recommendations of the Inquiry into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, including those on the protection of journalists, have been gathering dust on the shelf for three years.
Working as a journalist should not be dangerous. It is the state’s responsibility to ensure that this does not happen.
We reiterate our solidarity with the journalists of Side Street.
