Repubblika condemns the Prime Minister’s decision to re-appoint Johann Buttigieg as Chief Executive of the Planning Authority without clarifying any of the allegations that had been made about him.

Today, a few days after the inquiry into the secret company 17 Black was concluded, the Prime Minister decided to appoint Mr Buttigieg who in chats with Yorgen Fenech, the owner of this company, declared to him “We can do business whenever you like”.

We note that Johann Buttigieg stated this while he was Chief Executive of the Planning Authority and when it was publicly known that Yorgen Fenech was the owner of 17 Black. How can we have confidence in a Chief Executive of the Planning Authority who states that he is ready to do such business?

How can we trust Johann Buttigieg whose first act as CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority was to award a consultancy contract to Konrad Mizzi, who had just resigned as Minister under scandalous circumstances?

We remind Dr Robert Abela that his obligation as Prime Minister is to decide in Malta’s interest and not to use public appointments to bury the troubles resulting from “the evil pact”.
