Repubblika invites applications for the role of Project Coordinator. The work location of the successful candidate is Malta. The selected candidated will be required to report for some core activities at Repubblika’s office in Mqabba. The coordinator can work remotely the rest of the time. The coordinator may be required to travel in connection with the Project.

The individual selected will have the opportunity to increase professional knowledge and improve project management and organization skills. Through working with Repubblika and its international partners, they will build up an international network of contacts that will be of long-term benefit to them and to Repubblika.

About the Project

The Project, part-funded by the European Union (CREA-CROSS-2023-JOURPART; NEWS – Journalism Partnerships), aims to support independent media organisations by improving cooperation between civil society organisations and journalists, sharing and amplifying investigative journalism, defend press freedom, and encourage transparency and accountability.

Repubblika is working with its partners Tele Radio City scs onlus (Italy), ASOCIATIA JOURNALISTILOR DE INVESTIGATII CONTEXT (Romania), and SUSTAINABLE COMMUNICATION AISBL (Belgium).

Job Description

Repubblika is looking for a coordinator to assist the Executive Officer in the implementation of the Project and reporting to our project partners and our governing board, our members, and our funders.

The selected officer will also be expected to provide assistance to Repubblika with the administration of other EU-funded programs it is party to and to support the preparation of submissions for future projects.

Main Tasks

  1. General project management
  2. Project management: project timeline and budget tracking, reporting, logistical support.
  3. Organization and facilitation of regular online meetings between team members in a multilingual environment.
  4. Keeping of Lessons learned logbook for further analysis and improvement recommendations.
  5. Leading the cross-border implementation of the following tasks:
    • 1 Workshop for Journalists
    • Debate on narratives with journalists and activists and external experts
    • Mapping civil society organisations working in the media sector
    • Drawing up of a handbook for training of CSOs
    • Video productions
    • Creation of a public debate on the future of investigative and independent journalism in Europe
    • “There is no democracy without journalism” campaign
  6. Co-ordinating Repubblika’s participation in the following tasks:
    • Safer Space for journalists
    • Training for journalists on investigative journalism
    • Training on funding
    • Support grant scheme
    • Mentoring and research
    • Content processing and production
    • Multimedia content
    • Build a support network for investigative journalists in civil society
    • Dissemination and Communication, coordination and Global Outreach
    • Newsletters
    • Creation of multi-platform App
    • Festival, events and seminars
    • Dissemination of the campaign
  7. Reporting
    • Reporting to the Executive Officer
    • Ensuring a good remote working environment and collaboration within the project team
    • Ensuring regular communication to the project partners and stakeholders
    • Participation to the project deliverables
    • Collection of project partners’ specific needs
    • Reports and text-based deliverables review
    • Support in Project Design and Fundraising
    • Identification of opportunities for fundraising and project funding
    • Writing of projects funding applications
    • Participation to projects development
  8. Communications
    • Managing of Repubblika’s communication channels with respect to the Project

Requirements

Qualifications

Proven competence in one or more of social sciences, law, international relations, journalism, media and communications, or similar.

Experience

Project management; Experience in journalism will be considered an asset.

Skills

  • English and Maltese-speaking. A working knowledge of Italian is an asset.
  • Intercultural dialogue skills.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Financial management.
  • Strong capacity to identify unexpected issues and be proactive about them.
  • Attention to detail and capacity to organize work remotely.
