Art Installation: “Justice for Daphne is Justice for Your Right to Know”

Repubblika, #occupyjustice, and manueldelia.com are marking the third year since the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia with a collective exhibition of works by artists of various media: painters, cartoonists, illustrators, photographers, and poets who have responded to this attack on our democracy with their art.

A digital projection of the art will be held on an all-purpose LED screen near the Great Siege Monument in Great Siege Square,  Valletta from Thursday 15 October 2020 until Sunday 18 October 2020 from 9.00 a.m. – 10.00 p.m.

The Art Installation is called “Justice for Daphne is Justice for Your Right to Know”.

The launch of this exhibition will be held on Thursday, 15 October 2020 at 5.00 p.m. on the Repubblika Facebook page. The artists will speak about their artworks during this programme.

This art installation is a visual presentation of some of the art created in the aftermath of the assassination of the investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, killed for putting in writing, for recording in the public consciousness, the goings on in the darkest recesses of our government, of our society.

We have decided to have the installation projected in Great Siege Square in Valletta, because for the past three years, the Great Siege Monument has been the site of our ongoing protest, the monument has been transformed into a memorial, an expression of our collective outrage for this most heinous of crimes in the heart of Europe, and an ongoing reminder to the government and the world that justice has yet to be served.

We thank all the participating artists who have consistently used their art as protest for these past three years.

The participating artists are Robert Agius, Marisa Attard, Steve Bonello, Jon Borg, Rosa Borg, Celia Borg Cardona, Paul Borg Olivier, Burlò, Debbie Caruana Dingli, Paul Ellul, Cédric Falzon, Joe ‘Spider’ Farrugia, Gattaldo, Ġorġ Mallia, Immanuel Mifsud, Pepito, Pippa Zammit Cutajar, Darrin Zammit Lupi, and Zigli Jonathan Borg.

This is their roar.

An interactive catalogue of this Installation designed and produced by Ġorġ Mallia will be available for download.
